Teaching Philosophy

“Music is more than an after-school activity –

it teaches discipline, patience, confidence, and self-expression.

And it's fun!”

Through music, students can:

  • enjoy learning and playing a musical instrument;

  • develop musical proficiency, expression, and creativity skills; and

  • gain positive traits such as increased confidence, work ethic, and patience.

Learning music may not always be easy, but by fostering the right atmosphere at the music lesson, students can will achieve lifelong musical and behavioral skills.

My goal is to share the joys of music so that others may discover the many lifelong benefits associated with the gift of music. We are eager to help guide you through your own musical adventure!

Our History

IMG_5918 4.JPG

“This community means a lot to me. Hacienda Heights, CA is my home and a place I grew up since Kindergarten. I attended Los Altos Elementary School, Newton Middle School, and Los Altos High School. But all through my childhood there was never a music school in Hacienda Heights, so I wanted to do something about it.

In 2014, I quit my job as a CPA at a Big 4 accounting firm in Downtown LA and went back to my hometown of Hacienda Heights to start Opus Music School. I started in a small 350sf studio off of Hacienda Boulevard with one piano student. Within one year of quitting my corporate job, we had 100 students. We then moved to a professional commercial facility in 2015 on Gale Avenue and the school has since taken off.

I believe music is more than an after-school activity – it teaches discipline, patience, confidence, and self-expression. And it's fun! It has been a joy to see the music school grow, with many students from the same schools I went to growing up. Thank you to this community for supporting me in this journey.” -Mrs. Theresa, Founder of Opus Music School

The Meaning Behind Opus

Meet Opus the Octopus.png

The name Opus Music School® has many special meanings, both obvious and non-obvious.

The obvious is that "opus" is a music term: it's the order that composers write their musical works.

But there are also non-obvious meanings. The word opus shares many of the same letters as the word octopus, and Opus the Octopus serves as our mascot. An octopus has 8 legs, and the number 8 is very significant in music, such as a musical octave having 8 notes, and music typically written in groups of 8 counts.

Overall, we love our little mascot Opus the Octopus. Find a stuffed animal version of him sitting at our school's front desk!
