Happy New Year!

Welcome back to all of our students! We hope everyone had an excellent holiday break and a wonderful 2021 so far! All lessons have resumed online as of January 4, 2021.

At this time due to the status of LA County's Safer at Home Order, we are continuing to hold all of our music lessons online until further notice. Our #1 priority is the safety of our teachers, students, and staff. With recent vaccine news, we are anticipating that we will be able to open up fully for in person lessons sometime in 2021, with a phase-in occurring sometime over the next few months. We will be sure to keep you all updated with any reopening plan and give at least 2 weeks notice prior to starting our reopening plans.

What are some of your music new year’s resolutions for 2021? Some tips for goal setting for musicians:

  • Set your goals by writing them down and hanging them up in your practice area or on the inside of your instrument case.

  • Find 5 music idols and begin researching these pros for inspiration.

  • Make a realistic practice schedule that fits into your schedule and include mini objectives for each practice session.

Holiday Video Recording Session Recap

While this year has presented many unprecedented challenges, one thing Opus Music School did not want to miss was a performance opportunity for our students. That’s why we came up with the idea for our Holiday Video Recording Sessions that we held 11/5-11/7/20 and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!

Students made individual appointments to come to Opus Music School to professionally record their video and audio in front of a festive holiday backdrop. The video was provided to students to share with their family and friends in time for the holidays.

Getting to see students again in person was amazing enough but then you all blew us away with your musical skills that you’ve been working hard to develop over the last several months! We’d like to give a big shoutout to our videographer, Wing Chu, and Audio Engineer, Mr. Troy, and all of the Opus staff who played a key part in putting your recordings together and fine tuning all the little details!

All students who participated have been emailed a link to view and share their video! We hope you enjoy getting to share your videos for the holidays, we hope your family and friends will love getting to see your amazing performances as much as we did!

Congrats to Opus Students of the Month!

connor.jpg

Our November Student of the Month, Connor, is one of Mr. Francis’ drum students. He said that at first he wasn’t even able to play simple beats, but his secret to success? PRACTICE!! That hard work definitely paid off for Connor, he’s on the path to being a rockstar in no time!

Our December Student of the Month, Lauren, is a guitar student of Mr. Evan. She’s been taking lessons at Opus for a whole year now and she’s been working hard to develop her guitar playing. Her favorite song to play on the guitar is “Last Christmas” By Wham!, so it’s even more fitting that December was the month we honor all her achievements!

Openings in Opus Pop Stars Bands

We currently have some openings in our youth "Opus Pop Stars" pop band classes. If you are interested in joining the existing bands with any of the following openings, please email info@opusmusicschool.com.

  • Pop Stars Gold Class taught by Mr. Kyle (age 8+, intermediate):

    • Pianist

  • Pop Stars Platinum Class taught by Mr. Troy (age 12+, advanced, audition required):

    • Pianist or backup vocalist

If you want more experience playing with other students your age while having fun working together as a band, the Pop Stars class is for you! Play current pop hits from artists such as Harry Styles, Shawn Mendes, Katy Perry, and others. Participate in special online projects such as music production, songwriting, and recording.

Real pop songs will be used that are appropriate for their level and age group. Students will feel like they are playing in a real band and perform together in concerts. A live concert opportunity is being planned for our grand reopening bash once we are able to safely reopen.

Currently all classes are held online on Zoom. Once we are able to reopen, classes will resume in person at Opus Music School. Tuition is $110/month. Space is limited (only one student per instrument) so please inquire early if you are interested.

A Notes from the Founder

I am excited to enter this brand new year full of music and learning! We are so thankful to have been able to keep music a constant in our students lives to combat the uncertainty that 2020 brought.

I’d like to give a big welcome to all of our new students. If it’s your 1st time with us, welcome. So excited that even with virtual lessons we continue to have new students signing up with us.

I am happy to announce that during this quarantine period, we have been taking advantage of our closed facility to keep moving forward, such as updating our music room interiors and outfitting our facility with new technology. We also successfully launched our new Opus web portal in October 2020, which we hope you have been able to check out. As a reminder, our Opus web portal now allows you to:

  • Self-cancel lessons and book makeup classes

  • Link to your Zoom classroom

  • Update your card on file

  • Communicate online directly with your teacher

If you have not been using the web portal, we encourage you to log in and check it out as we have been getting rave reviews about how useful it has been by our students. If you have any questions about it, please do not hesitate to let us know.

I want to end by giving 3 big thank you's. Number 1 is our students: thank you. You are the heroes of 2020. You’re the ones that stood by us. So thank you, for continuing to take lessons with us online. We plan to continue a hybrid option even after we reopen, where you have the choice to come in person or stay online.

I want to thank all of our teachers. They’ve been working hard to maintain effective and positive virtual lessons, and they’ve pivoted and made it work. They’ve done an A plus job. So teachers, thank you for all you’ve done and for being such an adaptable team.

And of course, a huge thank you to our office team. Our office team is working tirelessly to get everybody where they need to be with their lesson reminders, with their Zoom logins, and helping with the transfer of all of our staff and students to our new web portal. Cindy, Sara, and Camille: thank you for all your recent hard work you’ve done this year - could not have done it without you.

Lastly, we hope you are ready to get excited, because once it is deemed safe to reopen, we are planning an epic reopening bash with a return to live music and have some exciting things we are looking forward to plan for our students and community. We are committed to you and keeping music alive during and after this pandemic. So here’s to a great 2021 and making music at Opus Music School!

If you ever have any feedback for me or my team, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or our office staff. We read each and every comment and look forward to serving you.

Sincerely,
Ms. Theresa Cheng
