Opus March Madness Music Contest Returns!

We are bringing back the Opus March Madness Music Contest in March 2022!

Last year while our lessons were all online only, we wanted to come up with a fun way for our students to get to show off their musical skills from the comfort of their homes, thus the first ever Opus March Madness was born! We were totally blown away by the response in 2021 with 44 super talented student video submissions and over 2,000 votes submitted over the course of the competition!

We knew we had to bring this all-star event back for another round which is why we're pleased to announce the second annual Opus March Madness Music Contest is coming in March 2022!

This online performance contest is open to all active Opus students. To participate, students will need to record a home video of them performing any piece of their choosing (up to 5 min. in length) and submit it to our website anytime between Sunday, 2/27 to Sunday, 3/6. Students are encouraged to let their creativity run free for their recording. Glam up your background, dress to impress, the sky is the limit!

We'll share the videos on our website and each week voting will be open to the public on our website to decide who will make it through to the next round until we have our 1st place champion!

2022 March Madness Music Contest Dates:

  • 2/27 to 3/6: Video submissions accepted on Opus Music School website

  • 3/8 to 3/13: Round 1 of voting

  • 3/15 to 3/20: Semifinals voting round (top 6)

  • 3/22 to 3/27: Final voting round (top 3)

We can't wait to see the rockin' performances our students put out this year! Feel free to start working with your teacher in your lessons to get your performance in tip top shape before it's time to record. We'll be announcing more information in next month's newsletter including the prizes!

The 2021 Opus March Madness Champion, Tristan K's first place video of him playing "Kryptonite" by Three Doors Down was even viewed online by the band's singer!

Holiday Surprise for Opus Student, Aaron G.

The Winter holidays are always one of our favorite times of the year because we love sharing the festive cheer and merriness with our students. This December was certainly one to remember for piano student, Aaron G. as he received a holiday surprise from Opus Music School beyond his wildest dreams!

With the help of our supporters, Opus Music School was able to gift this dedicated student with his very own, brand new upright Yamaha piano. Aaron has been taking lessons at Opus for 7 years after starting lessons at just 4 years old! Since then, Aaron has grown so much as a musician and has truly proven his dedication to music; just this year he started at a special middle school music conservatory to help him further develop his talents and work towards his dreams of being a professional pianist and composer.

Aaron's passion for music is truly inspiring and when we learned that his at home instrument was the same electric keyboard he started his musical journey, we knew we wanted to do something to show our support for this superstar student. With the help of our supporters we were able to coordinate this surprise to upgrade Aaron to a piano worthy of his talents- And he certainly was surprised to come home to a brand new piano!

We know that with his drive and passion for music, Aaron is sure to put this piano to very good use to help bring him closer to reaching his dreams each day. We're so grateful to be part of this incredible young musician's journey and we can't wait to see just how far he can go!
