Opus Music School March 2022 Newsletter
Important Safety Update
Thank you for doing your part in adhering to the safety guidelines at Opus Music School. As of Friday, April 1, 2022, the following updates will be made to our safety procedures:
Face Masks Continue to be Required - Face masks will continue to be required by anyone who enters our school. After assessing staff and teacher feedback, we have determined that due to limited size of our indoor classrooms, masks will continue to be mandatory for the safety of everyone in our Opus community.
Lobby Reopening - Our lobby will be reopened to parents to wait during your child's lesson. Classrooms will still be limited to students and teachers only. To monitor occupancy levels, at peak hours we may need to limit the number of people in our lobby.
Removal of Floor Shields - The floor shields in our classrooms will be removed to allow for a more comfortable space during lessons.
Optional Temperature Checks - Student temperature checks will no longer be required upon arrival. Our touchless wall thermometers will be available if any student would like to self-check their temperature.
We will continuously assess and announce any upcoming changes in advance. We'd like to remind everyone that online lessons will continue to be an option for any students if you are ever not feeling well - Just let our office know at least one hour prior to your lesson start time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Save the Date: Opus Spring Recital on May 15th!
We're back to live music recitals! The 2022 Opus Spring Recital will take place on Sunday, May 15th! Mark your calendars because this recital is open to all active Opus students no matter their age, skill level or instrument! There is no charge to participate and it is free admission to all guests.
Opus Spring Recital
When: Sunday, May 15, 2022
Where: Hacienda Heights Community Center
Program Times: TBA (be on the lookout for an email soon)

Participating in recitals is a great way to grow as a musician and gives students a goal to work towards in their lessons as they perfect their piece. Not only will it help students become better musicians, but it also gives them an opportunity to share their talents on stage for friends and family!
If you are interested in performing, let your teacher know. More information will be emailed to all of our active Opus students in the coming weeks. We look forward to bringing back our in-person recitals and we know each of our student performers is sure to put on a show-stopping performance!

Spring Closure Dates
Spring Break is just around the corner! We'd like to give a reminder that Opus Music School will be closed the following upcoming days:
Tuesday, April 5 to Friday, April 8, 2022 (Spring Break)
Sunday, April 17, 2022 (Easter Sunday)
During this time, our facility will be closed and there will be no lessons held either in-person or online. As a friendly reminder, makeup credits are not provided for lessons that fall on any of our scheduled school break dates as our school calendar and monthly tuition is set up to ensure that all students receive 48 lessons over the course of a year, no matter what day of the week you have your lessons on.
We hope everyone has a fun and safe Spring Break! We'll be back on Saturday, April 9th to resume all regularly scheduled lessons. And don't forget to practice!
March Student of the Month!
Student Name: Aidan G.
Age: 14
Instrument: Piano
Teacher: Mr. Rodrigo
1. What do you like the most about taking music lessons at Opus Music School?
I like learning new things about the piano and my teacher.
2. What do you like the most about your teacher?
I like that my teacher is nice, patient, and always helps me when I make a mistake that I have trouble on.
3. What is your favorite piece to play and why?
My favorite song to play is "Cossack Ride"
4. What challenges have you faced when learning music and how did you overcome it?
The challenge I have faced with learning music is my bad habit of starting a song over whenever I make a mistake (which causes me to play the song again and make the same mistake causing me to go in circles over and over again). I have overcome this challenge by ignoring the mistake and finishing the song before going back to the part that I made the mistake on, and fixing my error.
5. What is your goal with music?
My goal with music is to keep playing and learning new pieces for as long as I can.
6. What makes you unique? What are some of your other interests?
What makes me unique is my love of history and geography. The reason I like these things is because I like to learn what happened in certain events in history and how people reacted to these events during those times. I also enjoy traveling to new places. Some of the places I have been to are New York City, Hawaii, Cancun, Colombia, and Spain.
Way to go, Aidan! Your love of learning is super inspiring and we're so proud of how far you've come!
