Opus Music School July 2021 Newsletter
Submit Your Opus Music Festival Audition Video By This Sunday 7/11!
Have you submitted your audition video yet to help us decide what time you'll get to take center stage at the Opus Music Festival? If you're an active Opus student there's still time to submit yours on our website's festival page, but the deadline is coming up soon this Sunday July 11th at 11:59 PM!
For your audition you'll need to record yourself playing the song or piece that you want to perform at the actual festival and it can be up to 5 minutes in length. If you need help getting your performance ready for the limelight don't forget to ask your teacher for some pointers! Once you've got the perfect take, you can head to our festival site and upload your video! Then just make sure to follow our festival Instagram page for all updates about the festival, including the official lineup which will be unveiled to you all in Mid-July.
Event: Opus Music Festival Video Auditions
Audition Videos Due: Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 11:59 PM PST
Submission Website: Opus Music Festival Webpage
After the deadline, our talented team of judges will be reviewing the videos to determine when each student will perform out of our 40 performance time slots for this highly anticipated musical extravaganza.
We know all of our students are unbelievably talented, so our judges are in for quite a challenge to decide who will get to be one of our 10 headlining acts! No matter the lineup, we know that this festival will be a day jam-packed with amazing fun and music. We can't wait to see you there on September 25th 2021!
Opus Brag Badges Starting Soon!
You've met almost half of our underwater band already and soon you'll be able to collect them too as part of our new "Opus Brag Badge" system! These brag badge enamel pins will be given out to students to celebrate milestone dates in each student's musical journey here at Opus.
All active Opus students will have their enrollment counted from July 2021 going forward, which means that in October 2021 you'll be eligible to receive your first collectible pin to celebrate 3 months of music lessons! This way all students will get to experience the excitement of wondering who will be on their next pin as we roll them out with each approaching milestone.
Once you're eligible to receive a badge, all you have to do to earn that is complete a small test given by your teacher. Your teacher will ask you to demonstrate a skill on your instrument, just something to give you a chance to show off how hard you've been working in your lessons and how much you've grown as a musician!
We can't wait to see our students start to collect these cool new pins and show off their pride for their dedication to music!

We couldn't have done this without all of your support and we can't wait to continue to watch our amazing students grow as musicians every week.
For any students whose teacher will be returning in August, make sure to keep an eye out for your invitation to return to in-person lessons at Opus! A friendly reminder as well that if you are currently taking virtual lessons you are more than welcome to return in-person at any time, we just ask for at least 24 hours notice before your lesson so we can make sure we have everything set up for your lesson.
For New/Non-Active Students:
We've been able to contact almost all of the students who are still on our waiting list for in-person lessons and we're so grateful for everyone's patience as we find a time that works each student's needs. In mid-July we will be closing off our waiting list submissions so that we can reach out to all of the students who are on the list at that time to offer a lesson time before we reopen our online self booking service for trial lessons on August 2nd. If you are currently on the waiting list and have not yet been contacted, keep an eye out for a text from our office staff offering you a lesson time!
If you are ready to get yourself or your child started with lessons as soon as possible there is no wait time at all to sign up for online lessons! You can self-book an online trial here or contact our office staff for additional information.
We're so happy that we've been able to welcome almost all of our students back in person and that we've been able to have many new young musicians join our Opus Family! With our facility fully reopening soon we can't wait to continue teaching all of our amazing students and watch you all grow as artists. We can't wait to see everyone back in the Fall to ring in the new and improved era of Opus Music School!
July 2021 Student of the Month!
Student Name: Juliana Z.
Age: 14
Instrument: Piano
Teacher's Name: Ms. Theresa
1. What do you like the most about taking music lessons at Opus Music School?
I like how kind everyone is, and the fun and safe environment Opus creates.
2. What do you like the most about your teacher?
I like how Ms. Theresa is so kind, encouraging, motivating, and patient. I have learned so much from her, and she is one of the major reasons why I love piano so much!
3. What is your favorite piece to play and why?
I couldn’t choose between just one, so my two favorite pieces to play are “Mia and Sebastians Theme” from "La La Land" and “Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2" by Frederic Chopin. I love playing them because they both sound so beautiful and are fun to play!
4. What challenges have you faced when learning music and how did you overcome it?
Some challenges I have faced while learning music are getting timing and notes right on a hard pieces. I overcome the challenge by practicing the piece over many times until I get it right.
5. What is your goal with music?
My goal with music is to keep progressively getting more advanced, and to be able play more difficult pieces.
6. What makes you unique? What are some of your other interests?
After learning a piece, I can memorize it and play it by heart without looking back up at the sheet music, I have the majority of the songs I have learned memorized. I can sing while I play the piano, and I do musical theatre.
Keep up the amazing work Juliana! We've loved seeing you grow as a musician over the years and with talent and hard work like yours, there's no limit to what you'll achieve!
